Meet the Doctors
Scott J. Soave, O.D. FAAO, ACMO
It is with great excitement that Dr. Soave makes an introduction to you! Dr. Soave looks forward to continuing the exceptional care and attention that Dr. Patrick Kiella has offered for many years.
Dr. Soave has been in private practice in Traverse City for the past four years and is excited to continue to offer services to our local community. Dr. Soave’s education began with a Doctorate at the Pennsylvania College in Philadelphia in 2009, followed by a residency in ocular disease in Phoenix, Arizona. He then became a staff optometrist at a Phoenix area hospital for 7 years, serving patients with some of the highest rates of diabetes in the world. Prior to his entrance into private practice in our own Traverse City community, Dr. Soave became a fellow with the American Academy, served as faculty at four colleges of optometry, completed advanced competency certifications in ocular disease, and holds the honors of being awarded Arizona's "Young Optometrist of the Year" in 2015.
Dr. Soave has a passion for eye care, patient education, and problem solving. As an active member of the community, he enjoys all that northern Michigan has to offer with his wife, Jessie, and their two young boys, Cole and Wyatt. He looks forward to meeting you!
Johanna Mauk, OD
Originally from Traverse City, Dr. Mauk is thrilled to return to her hometown for the opportunity to serve the community that is near and dear to her heart.
Following graduating from Central High School, Dr. Mauk earned her associates degree at Northwestern Michigan College. From there, she completed her undergraduate studies at Ferris State University earning a Bachelor’s in Biology/Pre-Optometry. Dr. Mauk then went on to earn her Doctorate in Optometry from the Michigan College of Optometry in 2016.
Since 2016 Dr. Mauk has enjoyed the private practice setting in Cheboygan, MI and with experience treating and managing a variety of eye diseases, fitting contact lenses, and doing primary eye care exams, she is an incredible asset to our team. Dr. Mauk also has experience and enjoys working with the special needs population and pediatric patients. Dr. Mauk is passionate about improving her patients' quality of life through their vision and ocular health.
Dr. Mauk married her high school sweetheart, Jeff, and together they have a son and two dogs. Dr. Mauk enjoys cooking new recipes, spending time with family and doing anything outdoors!
